IASE Surfing Certificate

At the International Association of Surfing Education (IASE), we offer a diverse certification program tailored for surfers at various levels, aiming to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, culture, rules, and safety awareness essential for surfing. To embark on your surfing journey and become certified with IASE, the application process involves enrolling in an IASE-accredited surfing school, available in over 30 countries. For novices, Levels 1 to 3 are open for beginners without prior experience, while Levels 4 and beyond require successful completion of previous levels. For inquiries about accredited schools or enrollment information, please contact us at office@iase-surf.com or visit our IASE Surf Schools page.

Now, let’s dive into the specifics of each level and what they entail:

Beginners Surfer Certification (IASE 1-3):
  • IASE 1 - Basic Understanding: Involves mastering fundamental surfing board knowledge, safety considerations, and initial wave riding under instructor guidance. This level typically requires 10-15 hours of instruction and approximately 15-20 successful wave rides for certification.
  • IASE 2 - Refined Movements: Emphasizes independent catching of whitewater waves and stable riding techniques without the instructor's assistance.
  • IASE 3 - Riding Green Waves: Students progress to riding green waves, focusing on steady pop-ups and safe surfing practices. This phase includes advanced surfing techniques and cultural etiquette, with the ultimate goal of independently riding green waves.
Intermediate Surfer Certification (IASE 4-5):
  • IASE 4 - Reinforcing Basics: Emphasizes sturdier maneuvers, diagonal runs, and speed adjustments, requiring 25-30 hours of practice and 35-40 successful wave rides for completion.
  • IASE 5 - Advanced Skills: Focuses on consolidating advanced surfing techniques, including diagonal runs, board control, and basic directional maneuvers. Students aim to maintain control at the wave's peak.
Advanced Surfer Certification (IASE 6-7):
  • IASE 6 - Mastery of Techniques: This level enhances wave peak control and introduces advanced surfing skills like cutbacks, cross-stepping, and hanging maneuvers. Students are expected to execute various maneuvers while riding the board.
  • IASE 7 - Competition Level: A stage for showcasing top-tier maneuvers and individual surfing styles. It's a challenge of hiigh-difficulty maneuvers such as 720-degree aerials, handling barrel waves, and managing waves over 10 meters. This level doesn't have specific goals or assessment criteria.

Beyond technical training, we emphasize the importance of surfing culture, rules, and safety. Surfing progression goes beyond the number of waves ridden; it encompasses overall skills development and respect for surfing culture and the natural environment.

We encourage surfers to explore and experience the joy of surfing in the safest and most professional manner through our certification programs. Feel free to visit our website or contact us for more detailed information.
